In the wake of two security breaches, Yahoo's head lawyer has resigned and its CEO Marissa Mayer has lost her 2016 annual bonus, according to The New York Times.
In September 2016, Yahoo revealed it suffered a data breach in 2014 that affected 500 million users. An independent board found that "senior executives did not properly comprehend or investigate, and therefore failed to act upon" the 2014 breach, according to a Securities and Exchange Commission filing.
Yahoo's general counsel, Ronald S. Bell, resigned from his post March 1.
In a blog post from the same day, Ms. Mayer disclosed she will not receive her annual bonus or stock award. "I am CEO of the company and since this incident happened during my tenure, I have agreed to forgo my annual bonus and my annual equity grant this year and have expressed my desire that my bonus be redistributed to our company's hardworking employees, who contributed so much to Yahoo's success in 2016," she wrote.
Last December, Yahoo also disclosed it was the victim of an August 2013 data breach that affected more than 1 billion users.
