The checklist was created to serve as a guideline for defining mHealth interventions, and offering assistance as to where and how to implement the intervention.
Here are 16 steps from the list, published in The BMJ.
1. Infrastructure. Describe the necessary infrastructure required to support the mHealth program.
2. Technology platform. Outline how to replicate the software and hardware elements of the project.
3. Interoperability. Explain how the mHealth project is able to connect and interact with national or regional health information systems.
4. Intervention delivery. How is the mHealth project delivered and with what frequency and intensity?
5. Intervention content. How is the project’s content developed and customized?
6. Usability testing. Explain how end-users were involved in the development of the project.
7. User feedback. Describe what users think of the mHealth intervention.
8. Individual participants’ access. Are there any barriers or facilitators related to adoption of the intervention?
9. Cost assessment. Describe the basic costs associated with the project.
10. Adoption inputs. How do users find out about the project?
11. Delivery limitations. Are there any barriers when it comes to scaling up the intervention?
12. Contextual adaptability. Could the intervention be adapted for any different purposes?
13. Replicability. Share enough technical and content detail to support replication of the project.
14. Data security. Explain security protocols.
15. Compliance. Ensure compliance with national and regulatory guidelines.
16. Intervention fidelity. Detail to what extent the program adheres to the intended original deployment plan.
