What sparks consumer interest in health apps? 5 things to know

Consumers are increasingly searching for specific products rather than general health apps, according to an iMedicalApps report. In the report, iMedicalApps used Google Trends to identify consumer trends in mobile health.

Here’s what you need to know:

1. In 2014, the most common search term was “health app.” Prior to 2014, the most common search term was “fitness app.”

2. Today, both “health app” and “fitness app” are searched less frequently than specific products, such as “Apple health” or “Google fit.”

3. General health terms, like “medical app,” are searched more frequently than specific medical conditions, such as “cholesterol app” or “diabetes app.”

4. “Pregnancy app” is the most common search term when compared to other medical conditions; searches for “pregnancy app” have also increased over time.

5. “Cholesterol app” is another highly searched term; however, searches for “cholesterol app” have remained constant over time.
