Vecna, based in Cambridge, Mass., planned the April 12 event to support Vecna Cares, its philanthropic arm. Humans are invited to a 5K run through the streets and there will be a 100-meter dash for robots. Although they will compete in separate races, humans and robots can be members of the same team and have their scores totaled up at the end of the event, according to BetaBoston.

The funds raised will go to implement an EHR in the Trans Mara district of Kenya, linking 44 clinics with one hospital in the area, allowing all the centers to go paperless.

Vecna manufactures a series of autonomous mobile robots that can guide themselves, have an interface to measure human reactions and adapt their behaviors and multiple-agent coordination. In addition to autonomous mobile robots, Vecna manufactures a suite of EHR solutions called Patient Information Exchange, including a secure messaging platform, a patient queuing solution and registration.
