The RFI is part of the Coast Guard’s market research effort to assess existing industry capabilities. The Coast Guard is aiming to implement a secure EHR solution at 176 sites, including clinics and sick bays on land and water, according to FedScoop.com.
The Coast Guard terminated its EHR contract with Epic in 2016, at which point it reverted to using paper records. At the time, a Coast Guard spokesman told Politico “various irregularities were uncovered” during the implementation, along with “concerns about the project’s ability to deliver a viable product in a reasonable period of time and at a reasonable cost.”
The Coast Guard wants its new integrated EHR to be interoperable with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs’ homegrown EHR, which is considering a move to a commercial solution, and the U.S. Department of Defense’s EHR, which is in the midst of a Cerner rollout, according to FedScoop.com.
