Upgrades, Replacements Will Continue to Expand EHR Market

In 2013, 93 percent of acute-care hospitals were in possession of certified electronic health record technology, according to a brief from the ONC. However, this does not mean the market for EHR technology will begin to decline.

According to a report from Kalorama Information, the EHR technology market will continue to grow through at least 2018, fueled by upgrades and replacements to meet meaningful use requirements and providers’ functionality needs.

“We think adoption and upgrading activities will still be stimulating growth in 2014-2018,” said Mary Ann Crandall, Kalorama analyst and the author of the report, in a news release

Additionally, consulting and servicing fees paid to EHR vendors will continue to grow in the coming years, according to the report.
