Through the technology, patients can control the temperature, lighting and entertainment in their room. They can also download apps and cast the material on their iPad to the Apple TV.
In addition, patients can use the iPad to access information from their medical record. Patients create a unique PIN number, which they can use to view their test results, schedule and information about their care team. To protect patient privacy, the iPad is wiped each time a patient leaves Jacobs Medical Center, which is part of UC San Diego Health.
“By empowering patients with more information about their care and by giving them more control of their surroundings, we hope that patients feel that they are part of their healthcare team and feel at home with us,” said UC San Diego Health Chief Experience Officer Thomas Savides, MD.
