Central Illinois Health Information Exchange incorporates ICA's alerting technology

The Central Illinois Health Information Exchange, a nonprofit collaborative, is implementing health information solution provider ICA's Smart Alerts platform.

ICA's Smart Alerts platform provides real-time information to caregivers regarding patient encounters both in and out of networks, according to ICA's Vice President of Client Services Brian Higdon.

The CIHIE won $1.7 million in federal funds for participating in the Advanced Interoperable Health Information Technology Services to Support Health Information Exchange initiative with the Illinois Health Information Exchange Authority. The CIHIE will use the funds to expand alerting services in the state.

"Automated alerting can ensure that a primary care provider or care manager is aware of significant events for the most vulnerable patients," said CIHIE Executive Director Joy Duling. "This provides real-time — or aggregated digests — of information that wouldn't typically be made available unless the patient remembers to mention it when they come in for their next visit."
