Reuters uses the example of Tewksbury, Mass. The town’s police department was hit with a ransomware demand for $600. Following the demand, the hackers sent along an FAQ detailing what was happening and instructions for how to pay the ransom online.
Ransomware is growing beyond a simple cottage industry. Hackers are employing call centers, technical support and even call centers to carry out ransomware and help victims easily pay up.
