Brown University Health develops hospital at home: 5 notes

Providence, R.I.-based Brown University Health is building a hospital-at-home program over the next several months.

Here are five things to know:

1. CMS approved the academic health system for acute hospital care at home in May 2024. 

2. Brown University Health plans to join the ranks of dozens of health systems nationwide that provide inpatient-level care in the home using a mix of virtual and in-person care and remote patient monitoring.

3. The program will be based out of Miriam and Rhode Island hospitals, both in Providence.

4. “Our planning efforts are well underway, focusing on critical areas such as staffing, service regions and clinical pathways, alongside advanced technology solutions for at-home patient monitoring,” a Brown University Health spokesperson told Becker’s.

5. The care model will foster patient recovery in a “familiar and supportive environment,” with the ultimate goals of “enhancing healthcare delivery and improving patient outcomes,” the spokesperson said.
