Fifty-nine percent of healthcare organizations have increased their IT budgets dedicated to information security in the past year, according to the 2011 HIMSS Security Survey (pdf).
The Healthcare Information & Management Systems Society survey also revealed that 35 percent of organizations spend 1-3 percent of their overall IT budget on information security. Other data on IT security budgets include the following:
• 18 percent of organizations spend less than 1 percent of their IT budget on information security.
• 16 percent spend 4-6 percent of their IT budget on information security.
• 4 percent spend more than 12 percent of their IT budget on information security.
