ISACA, an international IT governance association, surveyed 450 cybersecurity and information security professionals about how their employers have addressed or plan to address ransomware preparedness after the global “Petya” cyberattack, which infected computer systems across the globe June 27.
Here are four insights into how respondents said their companies are tackling ransomware threats.
1. After the worldwide ransomware attack “WannaCry” in May, 50 percent of total respondents said their companies implemented additional security precautions.
2. Following the “Petya” cyberattack in June, 28 percent of total respondents said their companies plan to implement new security precautions.
3. About 25 percent of respondents have experienced a ransomware attack. In total, 83 percent of respondents said they expect to see a rise in ransomware attacks in the second half of 2017.
4. Six percent of respondents indicated they thought their company would pay a ransom if targeted by ransomware.
