In the report, titled the HIMSS 2017 Nursing Informatics Workforce Survey, HIMSS determined that experience and salary have continued to increase for nursing informatics specialists.
Here are three more findings.
- In the 2017 survey, 46 percent of nursing informatics specialists reported making more than $100,000. This represents a substantial increase from 2014, when only 33 percent fell into this category. Thirty-four percent of respondents in 2017 also reported receiving a bonus.
- Those who hold a certification in nursing informatics or a postgraduate degree tended to have higher salaries, and more than half of these nurses make more than $100,000 a year. Only 37 percent of those without a certification or advanced degree make more than $100,000.
- Of the nurses included in the survey, 57 percent already hold a postgraduate degree, such as a master’s degree or PhD in informatics. Almost half (41 percent) are currently enrolled in a formal informatics education program.
