Surescripts adds 14 health systems to its National Record Locator Service

Surescripts, a national health information network, has added 14 new health systems to its National Record Locator Service, which now represents 28 health systems.

Clinicians on the NRLS can access information related to nearly 230 million patients within their EHR workflow, which staff may use to identify previous care locations or retrieve clinical records. The system reaches patients in all 50 states and will soon cover 12 major metropolitan areas, including Chicago, Los Angeles and New York.

Surescripts has also partnered with EHR vendors — such as eClinicalWorks, Epic and NextGen Healthcare — which have implemented the NRLS.

"In today's fragmented healthcare environment, health systems need an easy way to securely exchange patient information," said Tom Skelton, CEO of Surescripts.
