In January, the clinic contracted with a third-party vendor to transfer old X-ray films into electronic format. In March, it discovered that the vendor had sold the films to a company that harvested silver from the films. The clinic believes that the films were ultimately destroyed.
The clinic has notified affected patients that their names and dates of birth would have accompanied the films. It has not yet received any indication that information has been misused.
Raleigh Orthopaedic is in the process of reporting this incident to state and federal law enforcement.
