The proposed metadata standards are in three categories: patient identity, provenance and privacy. These standards would apply to summary care records.
The proposed metadata standards are listed below.
Patient Identity
1. Name.
2. Date of birth.
3. Address.
4. Zip code.
5. Patient identifiers, such as the last four digits of the social security number or the driver license number.
Provenance
1. Tagged data element identifier.
2. Time stamp.
3. Actor and actor’s affiliation.
Privacy (assumes encryption)
1. Policy pointer.
2. Content metadata, comprised of data type and sensitivity information.
