Launched in 1994, the HIMSS Enterprise Davies Award recognizes hospitals and health systems for “excellence in health information technology,” with a focus on those that have applied technology to improve patient outcomes.

In part, HIMSS credited the health system’s IT success to the work of its Innovation Ochsner group, which has developed digital medicine solutions to improve hypertension, pregnancy and diabetes outcomes for its patients.

Ochsner Health System has also used its EHR to address the opioid crisis, providing opioid prescription data to its emergency department physicians in an effort to reduce prescribing rates.
