An estimated 18 percent of CIOs or chief technology officers at large firms are women, up from 16 percent in 2017, according to a 2019 report from consulting firm Korn Ferry. The analysis comprised data from the 1,000 top U.S. public and private companies by revenue.

Results of the report showed that healthcare had one of the highest percentages of women technology executives, with 18 percent. Financial and energy industries led for the highest percentage of women CIOs and CTOs, with 25 percent and 21 percent respectively, according to the report.

Tech executives at large firms last year told the WSJ they are focusing on strategies to reduce job barriers for women and minorities, such as implementing internal corporate training and discussion groups that support and promote diversity.
