Microsoft teases wearables market with health-tracking smartwatch

Tech giant Microsoft has announced it will join the smartwatch market — competing major players Apple and Google, among others — before the holiday shopping season, according to a report from Business Insider.

Forbes reported Microsoft was set to release a new wearable in the next few weeks, and this week, filings for a wireless device from the company were approved by the Federal Communications Commission.

The company requested confidentiality for the product details, but it will come in "small, medium and large," and will feature Bluetooth Low Energy radio, which is common in wearables, according to the report.

Forbes' report noted the upcoming wearable will focus on fitness — conceptually more like a Fitbit than an Apple Watch, for example — and will be compatible with iOS and Android devices.
