Louisiana Medicaid miscalculated EHR incentive payments to 20 hospitals

Louisiana miscalculated Medicaid EHR incentive payments for 20 hospitals, overpaying some while underpaying others, according to a report from HHS' Office of the Inspector General.

The state overpaid 13 hospitals a total of $3.1 million and underpaid six hospitals $1.3 million. The state made an additional incorrect payment to an additional hospital, though the mistake was remedied during the OIG's audit.

Additionally, the OIG found the state did not sufficiently monitor reported patient volumes at 24 hospitals and made incorrect incentive payments to 13 eligible professionals.

The OIG recommended Louisiana repay the federal government the net $1.8 million in overpayments, adjust the payments to the 20 hospitals to correct the over/underpayments and review its incentive payment formulas and processes to ensure future payments conform to state and federal requirements.
