Just 3 in 10 insured patients want to track health on mobile device, survey finds

While the majority of consumers use a smart phone, few of them want to use their mobile devices to track or monitor health data, according to a survey from HealthMine and reported by mobihealthnews.

The survey gathered responses from approximately 1,200 consumers with either self- or employer-sponsored health coverage.

Eighty-nine percent of respondents indicated using a smartphone, tablet or both, but just 30 percent said they would participate in a wellness program that used the device to track their health. Additionally, 18 percent of respondents said they liked using mobile apps to learn health and wellness information, according to the report.

"Even though mobile applications have incredible potential to help consumers manage their health, they are still in the early stages of growth," Bryce Williams, CEO and president of HealthMine, said in a statement. "As plan sponsors evaluate apps for their wellness programs, they should look for those that incorporate actionable clinical data and personalization to increase engagement."
