Yale-New Haven (Conn.) Hospital. Yale-New Haven Hospital has worked to establish sustainability as an integral aspect of the hospital’s mission. The hospital installed a biodigester in its food service kitchen to quickly and safely decompose organic waste. Yale-New Haven also maintains a 35 percent recycling rate through the use of a single-stream recycling system deployed across all of the facility’s clinical and nonclinical areas. The health system’s New Haven-based Smilow Cancer Center also received LEED certification for its energy efficiency and environmentally friendly design. For its conservation efforts, Practice Greenhealth awarded Yale-New Haven Hospital the 2017 Greenhealth Emerald Award and the 2017 Greening the OR Recognition Award.
