Sharp HealthCare taps Apple Vision Pro for surgical innovation

San Diego-based Sharp HealthCare has launched a clinical study to evaluate the use of spatial computing technology in cataract surgery.

The study, titled “Evaluation of Head Mounted Spatial Computing and 3D Visualization in Ocular Microsurgery: A Feasibility and Safety Study,” will assess the safety and feasibility of integrating devices such as Apple Vision Pro into ophthalmic procedures, according to an April 15 news release.

The research will examine how spatial computing tools affect surgical visualization, including depth perception, as well as workflow and surgeon ergonomics.

The study is among the first institutional review board-approved clinical evaluations of spatial computing in ocular microsurgery. It will be conducted at Sharp HealthCare and Sharp Otay Lakes Ambulatory Surgery Center. It is supported by Sharp HealthCare Foundation.
