Seattle-based University of Washington announced the formation of the Institute for Medical Data Science, an institute that will study artificial intelligence, machine learning and healthcare, at the UW Medical Data Science Symposium, GeekWire reported March 1. 

Hospitals and health systems such as Rochester, Minn.-based Mayo Clinic are using artificial intelligence and machine learning to help aid them in reaching a diagnosis, often earlier than they otherwise would, The Wall Street Journal reported Feb. 28.
