The new technology, called MScore, provides a more precise analysis of actual surgical performance. Mimic Technologies, the simulation company that built the da Vinci simulation program, is developing MScore by using performance data collected from more than 100 surgeons and academics that have completed at least 75 separate cases.
MScore compares a novice surgeon performance to an experienced surgeon performance in order to objectively assess a surgeon’s skills. The evaluation can help hospitals decide whether a surgeon is ready to use the da Vinci system to operate on patients. The MScore system also encourages continued training long after proficiency has been established by monitoring performance over time.
