Rochester, Minn.-based Mayo Clinic and Abridge have codeveloped an AI-powered documentation tool for nursing, involving nurses every step of the way.
The health system and AI startup began working together in 2024 to build the application. After launching the AI, use was optional, but between 80% and 100% of nurses on the units adopted it within the first few days. Mayo Clinic later expanded access to 200 additional users, with many of the slots filling up in the first hour.
“We call it For Nurses, By Nurses,” said Mayo Clinic Chief Nursing Officer Ryannon Frederick, MS, RN, in a May 6 Abridge blog post. “They deeply understood that they were creating the future of nursing documentation.”
