Dr. Blumenthal discusses the following health IT advancements:
• Five organizations have been approved to be testing and certification bodies for electronic health records, including Surescripts, ICSA Labs, SLI Global Solutions, InfoGard Laboratories, CCHIT and Drummond Group. To date, more than 200 systems and modules have been certified.
• Approximately 30,000 physicians have enrolled in one of 62 regional extension centers, which were created to assist physicians move toward meaningful use of EHRs.
• The State Health Information Exchange Program has doled out planning grants to 56 states and territories, and more than 20 of these states and territories also have had implementation plans approved.
• Seventeen Beacon Communities will be serving as model communities for health IT.
