The agreement requires Geisinger to continue operating Bloomsburg as an acute-care hospital six years longer than Bloomsburg and Geisinger had agreed in the initial merger terms. Geisinger is also required to protect the privileges of all physicians at Bloomsburg Hospital, an element not included in the original merger agreement. Finally, Geisinger agreed to negotiate and contract with health plans for Bloomsburg Hospital separately from Geisinger Medical Center in Danville. According to the report, this will ensure that rates for Bloomsburg will be comparable to other community hospitals, rather than a large tertiary hospital like Geisinger Medical Center, according to the report.
