Lakeland (Fla.) Regional Health has launched a hospital-at-home program, WFLA reported.
In the first week, the health system has treated nine patients at home, discharging four of them, according to the April 21 story.
“This is extremely beneficial to patients,” Jordan Burrows, RN, patient care manager of Lakeland Regional Health at Home, told the news outlet. “This is what patients need to heal. Studies show that in a home environment, you’re going to recover two to three times faster than when you are in a hospital.”
Lakeland Regional Health is one of seven health systems approved by CMS to provide acute hospital care at home since November. Florida has become a hub for hospital at home, with major health systems such as Cleveland Clinic, Rochester, Minn.-based Mayo Clinic and Altamonte Springs-based AdventHealth rolling out programs there.
