Greensboro, N.C.-based Cone Health is reporting strong results, including no patient deaths or healthcare-acquired infections, from its first year of hospital at home.
Here are five things to know from a June 1 news release:
1. Launched in April 2025, Cone Health’s acute hospital care at home program has reported zero deaths among enrolled patients and no infections associated with care.
2. The hospital-at-home patients have a lower overall length of stay compared to brick-and-mortar hospital patients.
3. The at-home patients have a lower 30-day readmission rate than traditional hospital inpatients.
4. “I believe great care doesn’t always require complex treatments — sometimes it begins with rest, nutrition and mobility,” stated Alex Carrico, MSN, RN, director of the Cone Health Hospital at Home program. “Our hospital-at-home program makes that possible by caring for patients where they’re most comfortable — their own homes.”
5. The five-hospital system limits hospital at home to six patients at a time but plans to expand the program once more payers cover it.
