Cleveland Clinic has named three startup companies to its latest Quantum Innovation Catalyzer Program cohort to support research into how quantum computing could advance healthcare and life sciences.

The program selected EntangleBio, Polaris Quantum Biotech and Singularity Quantum from a global pool of early- and venture-stage companies. Their projects span areas such as rare disease research, drug toxicity prediction and cardiovascular risk modeling.

The initiative provides participating companies with a 12-month experience, including access to Cleveland Clinic’s IBM Quantum System One and guidance from the health system’s researchers. The quantum system, located on Cleveland Clinic’s main campus, is dedicated to healthcare and life sciences research.

According to an April 9 news release, the selected companies will pursue projects aimed at identifying how genetic variants contribute to rare diseases, improving AI models for drug development and building quantum-enhanced simulations for real-time cardiovascular risk prediction.

Participants in the program are also eligible for up to $250,000 in investment from K5 Tokyo Black Fund, with an in-kind match from Cleveland Clinic, the release said.

Cleveland Clinic launched the Quantum Innovation Catalyzer Program in 2023 as part of its broader effort to build a quantum computing ecosystem through its partnership with IBM. The 10-year collaboration, known as the Cleveland Clinic-IBM Discovery Accelerator, aims to advance biomedical research using quantum and advanced computing technologies.
