A Silicon Valley data scientist has been named the White House's data scientist in residence, according to a Govtech report.
DJ Patil will focus on healthcare-related big data in the new position and will work alongside federal CTO Megan Smith, according to the report.
Mr. Patil has been credited with coining the term "data scientist," according to the report.
Mr. Patil previously served as vice president of product at RelateIQ, a customer relationship management platform which was acquired by Salesforce.com, and was data scientist in residence at Greylock, a venture capital firm in Silicon Valley. He was head of data products, chief scientist and chief security officer of LinkedIn for approximately three years.
