Eighty-seven percent of health system CIOs see themselves as strategy influencers, a Sept. 4 survey from healthcare data platform Arcadia found.

On behalf of Arcadia, the Harris Poll conducted a survey online from Jan. 11-25, gathering responses from 102 senior healthcare IT leaders and decision-makers across the U.S.

The results indicate that CIOs are becoming increasingly involved in shaping, refining and executing business strategy. However, only 13% of CIOs identified as purely strategy implementers.

Despite their growing strategic role, many CIOs report feeling constrained by daily operational demands. In fact, 58% of respondents said they primarily focus on tactical execution, prioritizing immediate tasks over long-term strategic planning.

To be most effective, respondents suggest that approximately 75% of their time should be dedicated to strategy development and execution.
