CIOs are preparing to deal with potentially slower IT spending caused by President Donald Trump’s tariffs, CIO reported.

IDC halved its IT spending growth forecast for 2025 because of the tariffs, from 10% to 5%, according to the April 7 story. The IT research firm also put the chances of a global recession at 40%.

“There is no doubt that we will see a knock-on effect of tariffs in every business globally and in IT the impact will be slowing or stopping projects, slow up on any hiring, and many of us will tap into the consultant and staff augmentation workforce, releasing them to minimize impact on our full-time staff,” an anonymous CIO told the publication.

This is happening at a time when “CIOs must concurrently navigate the imperative of leveraging AI for sustained competitive advantage and market differentiation,” a former CIO told the news outlet.
