Kyle Marek spent more than 15 years as information chief and vice president of general services at Morehead City, N.C.-based Carteret Health Care before being appointed president and CEO on May 22. He had worked in IT for the health system since 1998 and served as interim chief executive since December.
In addition to his tech duties as CIO, he had already been an active member of the executive team, helping make decisions on new construction projects, including a new pavilion, cardiac catheterization lab and surgical center addition.
“He has proven himself in many roles at the hospital over the years,” said Mark Shouse, board chair for the health system, in a news release.
Another CIO-turned-chief executive is Suresh Gunasekaran, president and CEO of San Francisco-based UCSF Health. Prior to taking the helm of that health system in 2022, he had spent a decade as IT chief at UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas.
