The report said the committee also looked at vocabulary standards for e-prescribing clinical quality, all in the hopes to help healthcare providers incorporate electronic health records and achieve stage 2 of meaningful use.
Panel recommendations included a minimal number of code sets, such as SNOMED-CT and LOINC, to show a patient’s allergy effects, diagnosis and other meaningful use measures. According to the report, the panel also recommended using current e-prescribing standards involving a patient’s medication orders being sent to hospital pharmacies and retail pharmacies upon discharge.
