HHS allocates $840M to help providers increase, improve IT

HHS Secretary Sylvia M. Burwell has announced a new initiative to improve patient care through improved IT systems and access to information.

The Transforming Clinical Practice Initiative will invest $840 million over four years, helping support 150,000 clinicians shift toward a value-based, patient-centered coordinated healthcare system.

The initiative focuses on expanding the collection and spread of information to boost coordinated care and using EHRs to examine data on quality and efficiency.

"The administration is partnering with clinicians to find better ways to deliver care, pay providers and distribute information to improve the quality of care we receive and spend our nation's dollars more wisely," said Secretary Burwell. "We all have a stake in achieving these goals and delivering for patients, providers and taxpayers alike."
