Healthcare orgs are struggling to harness data to improve care quality

Only 16 percent of healthcare organizations said they are using data to identify clinical best practices, showing that hospitals and health systems are facing significant challenges when it comes to harnessing data to improve care quality, a May 9 survey from data company MDClone found.

MDClone surveyed more than 30 healthcare leaders and found the following:

Ninety-six percent of respondents said they expect to increase their data-driven projects in the next three years, but the survey said most healthcare organizations are not prepared for this.
Only 36 percent of respondents said they have the allocated budget for quality and performance improvement.
Eighty percent of respondents said they don’t have enough analyst resources to meet demand for knowledge work in performance improvement.
Fifty-eight percent of respondents said improvement projects take an average of six months or longer to complete.
