In 2010, Hawaii HIE secured over $5.6 million in federal funding to create the exchange. Hawaii HIE selected Medicity, a provider of HIE technology, as the exchange partner. Medicity will build HIE in phases beginning with direct messaging to allow physicians and other providers to indicate preferred information when receiving a patient referral.
