DeepMind, Google's artificial intelligence arm, is building a data auditing project for DeepMind Health, according to a DeepMind blog post.
The blog post, written by DeepMind's CoFounder and Head of Applied AI Mustafa Suleyman and Head of Security and Transparency Ben Laurie, describes the new project under the working title "Verifiable Data Audit." With this service, authorized staff at partner hospitals will be able to access an online interface, where they can view an audit trail of DeepMind Health's data use in real time.
The project is meant to help the group's partner hospitals ensure DeepMind is using patient data for approved purposes, such as predictive analytics research.
"It's not just where the data is stored, it's what’s being done with it that counts," the authors write. "We think this approach will be particularly useful in health, given the sensitivity of personal medical data and the need for each interaction with data to be appropriately authorised and consistent with rules around patient consent."
