Telemedicine bills have been proposed over the years, but the House and Senate have been unable to reach an agreement, according to the report. For the upcoming session, Florida state Senate Democrats and House Republicans have each proposed telemedicine bills, which lawmakers expect to work through to reach an agreement, according to the report.
Key provisions of the regulatory issues include whether out-of-state physicians can provide telemedicine services to patients in Florida and whether Florida’s Medicaid system should pay for telemedicine care.
Some hospitals in Florida already offer telemedicine services, but House representatives say lawmakers need to solidify guidelines into law, according to the report.
“It’s abundantly important that we get it done and get it done right,” said House Health Care Appropriations Chairman Matt Hudson (R-Naples).
