VA and Apple partnered in February to extend Health Records on iPhone access to veterans. The department slowly rolled out the feature to select patients over the summer before making it available to its remaining patient base.
Apple designed Health Records based on Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources, a standard for EHR sharing. The feature allows patients to sign into their providers’ patient portals through the Health application on iPhone. With Health Records, veterans can view all their medical records, including medications, lab results and immunizations, directly from their iPhone in a single app.
VA, which provides medical services to more than 9 million veterans across 1,243 facilities, including hospitals and clinics, joins organizations such as Baltimore-based Johns Hopkins, University of California San Diego, Allscripts and 400 additional healthcare providers, EHR vendors and lab networks that also support Health Records on iPhone.
