MedWise, which is now in beta phase, allows the physician to organize information from the “hospital’s existing EHR into tiles, juxtaposing them on the same screen and creating new elements,” according Pittwire Health’s Nov. 11 report. Yalini Senathirajah, PhD, a University of Pittsburgh biomedical informatics associate professor, developed the tool to help physicians make timely medical decisions.
“If the EHR system can be adapted by physicians to meet their needs, in public health
emergencies it could be rapidly adapted to create new solutions without waiting three months for the IT department to provide a solution,” Dr. Senathirajah said, according to the report.
University of Pittsburgh is currently testing the safety and efficiency of MedWise as well as the tool’s cognitive effects. Dr. Senathirajah is overseeing a study of 66 physicians who are using the tool.
