ONC is spearheading a new effort to strengthen current interoperability initiatives and secure long-term strategies, Deputy National Coordinator Steve Posnack wrote in a May 13 blog post.

Most larger healthcare organizations are prepared for ONC's new information blocking rules, but not as many hospitals and health systems feel confident that the regulations will support any improvements to healthcare interoperability, according to a recent KLAS Research report.

Four of the top vendors hospitals use to participate in the Medicare EHR Incentive program are Allscripts, Cerner, Epic and Meditech, according to ONC data.

Cerner reported $172.3 million in net earnings for the first quarter of 2021, up 17 percent from $147.2 million during the same period last year. 

Cerner CEO and Chair Brent Shafer will depart from his position, the Kansas City, Mo.-based EHR company said May 5. 

Forty-four healthcare providers including Hartford HealthCare and Yale New Haven Health have joined Connecticut's statewide health information exchange, which went live May 3, the CT Mirror reports.
