This is the fifth year ONC has opened comments to the public for updates to the ISA, which serves as the main health information technology source on interoperability. The standards catalog also helps support ONC’s efforts to implement provisions of the 21st Century Cures Act.
Here are three new components that have been added to the 2020 edition of the ISA:
1. Various interoperability needs regarding electronic prescribing and tobacco use.
2. A new appendix that provides links to interoperability efforts undertaken by state and local public health agencies.
3. Lists of interoperability needs that support “specialty care and settings,” such as pediatrics and prevention and treatment of opioid abuse.
