Tennessee official appoints EHR task force chairman: 3 things to know

Tennessee state Sen. Todd Gardenhire will serve as chairman of the state’s EHR Task Force, which aims to improve efficiency and decrease costs of EHR systems used statewide, the Chattanoogan reports.

Three things to know:

1. Tennessee Lieutenant Gov. Randy McNally appointed Mr. Gardenhire chairman of the task force, which will collaborate with healthcare experts from across the state and country to perform a comprehensive review of Tennessee’s use of EHRs.

2. Mr. Gardenhire plans to analyze EHR contracts with various hospitals across the state to determine efficiency as well as Tennessee’s Medicaid program TennCare to examine for potential fraud. 

“If we can save not only TennCare but also hospitals money, it will make more funds available to provide better coverage to more people,” said Mr. Gardenhire, according to the report.

3. Additional state senators serving on the task force include Sen. Paul Bailey, Sen. Mike Bell, Sen. Shane Reeves and Sen. Katrina Robinson.
