Epic Honor Roll grants: What 8 health systems received

Making Epic’s Honor Roll comes with more than recognition, and the health systems that disclose their payouts show how widely the amounts vary.

Launched in 2017, the EHR vendor’s voluntary Honor Roll Good Maintenance Grant Program provides financial incentives to health systems that adopt its best practices and latest features. Participants are evaluated on components including ease of use for providers and nurses, enterprise data and analytics, financial, health information exchange, infrastructure, patient experience, population health, and staying current. Depending on how many components they complete, organizations land at cum laude, magna cum laude or summa cum laude, the top tier.

Epic named 70 U.S. health systems to its 2026 Honor Roll at its Users Group Meeting in August, up from 64 in 2025.

The grants themselves are less visible. The amounts below come from health systems’ own announcements, made between 2017 and 2026. At least two, Michigan Medicine and TidalHealth, described the grant as a credit applied to Epic invoices or future Epic work rather than a cash payment.

Here are eight health systems that have disclosed their Honor Roll grants, ranked by largest single award:

1. Baton Rouge, La.-based FMOL Health received $755,000 in 2026 after earning summa cum laude, the program’s top tier, for the third time.

2. New York City-based NYC Health + Hospitals received $748,000 in 2025 for making the cum laude level for the third consecutive year. The public hospital system noted that 17% of Honor Roll-eligible organizations were named to the program in 2024.

3. Ann Arbor-based Michigan Medicine was awarded $440,000 in invoice credit in 2018 for reaching magna cum laude. The academic medical center said it would apply the credit to future Epic invoices.

4. Philadelphia-based Temple Health garnered $418,000 in 2026 at the cum laude level.

5. Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, received $360,000 in 2021 for reaching summa cum laude, which it described as the maximum award. Mercy said it shared the top tier with only seven other Epic organizations at the time.

6. Salisbury, Md.-based TidalHealth was awarded $291,000 in 2025 at the cum laude level, in the form of a credit toward current and future Epic advancements.

7. Syracuse, N.Y.-based SUNY Upstate Medical University received $205,755 in 2023 at the cum laude level, then earned $185,000 at the same level in 2025, its sixth Honor Roll achievement.

8. Cheyenne (Wyo.) Regional Medical Center received $165,000 in 2017, when it was one of only four organizations named to Epic’s Honor Roll.
