Athenahealth is collaborating with Epic and other EHR vendors to make it easier for ambulatory practices to exchange clinical information across EHR platforms, the company confirmed in a statement to Becker’s.
“Ambulatory practices need access to clinical information from across the care continuum to make informed decisions and coordinate care for their patients,” the company said in the statement. “As part of our broader commitment to improving interoperability, Athenahealth is collaborating with EHRs, like Epic, to make it easier for our customers to exchange information across our systems.”
The company said the goal is to help practices spend less time locating patient information and more time delivering care.
The collaboration builds on Athenahealth’s broader interoperability efforts. In March, the company showcased a panel with leaders from Epic, Sacramento, Calif.-based Sutter Health and Raleigh (N.C.) Neurology Associates on improving referral coordination and data exchange between health systems and independent physician practices.
Athenahealth has also been expanding interoperability capabilities within its athenaOne platform, including efforts to bring clinical information from outside organizations directly into physicians’ workflows.
The company did not provide a timeline for additional integrations or specify which new capabilities would be available to customers through its collaboration with Epic.
