athenahealth posts $329.4 million revenue in Q1: 3 things to know

Using a new revenue recognition standard, athenahealth posted financial results April 27 for its first quarter of 2018 ended March 31.

Here are three things to know.

1. The EHR vendor posted $329.4 million in revenue using the new standards, compared with $320.3 million before implementing the new standards. Compared with the same period in fiscal year 2017, revenue increased 12 percent from $285.4 million.

2. Net income using the new standards was $31.1 million, or $0.76 per diluted share. Net income prior to the new revenue recognition standard was $19.1 million, or $0.47 per diluted share, compared to a $1.4 million net loss, or $0.03 per diluted share, in the same period last year.

3. Using the new standard, athenahealth posted a 12.8 percent operating margin, up 7.7 percent from one year prior.
