MHS Genesis is built on a commercial platform developed by Cerner as part of a $4.3 billion DOD contract awarded to Leidos, Cerner and Accenture in July 2015. The EHR deployment will follow a “wave model,” ultimately replacing all of the DOD’s legacy healthcare systems.
Naval Hospital Bremerton represents the third pilot site for MHS Genesis, which began its roll out at Fairchild Air Force Base outside Spokane, Wash., in February. Tacoma, Wash.-based Madigan Army Medical Center, which is set to go live on the EHR Oct. 21, will mark the final pilot site.
The DOD plans to continue with 23 waves across three continental U.S. regions and two regions overseas through 2022. The typical wave will include three hospitals and 15 physical locations and will last for roughly one year.
